The Battle of Broken Hill – 1915

A little known episode in Australia’s history was the attack on a train packed with people heading to a picnic on 1 January 1915.

The Advertiser – 2 Jan 1915 wrote a full account the day after the event.

In 2004, George Negus on ABC’s GNT ran a story on the incident.  Here’s the transcript.

Information on the two men who attacked the train (Mullah Abdullah and Gool Badsha Mahomed) is included in the Australian Dictionary of Biography online.
